Legionella Risk Assessment

Any water system in the workplace could be a source for legionella bacteria growth. The responsible person must take appropriate steps to assess the risk for legionella/Legionnaire’s disease.

The most common sources of legionella are man-made water systems, including:

  • Cooling towers and evaporating condensers
  • Hot and cold water systems
  • Spa pools

Humidifiers, indoor fountains, showers etc. can also be sources of legionella. So, if you have any of these things in your workplace you will need to carry out a risk assessment and provide evidence of employing techniques to reduce/eliminate the risk to employees.
