Asbestos Survey
Asbestos is made up of microscopic bundles of fibres which may become airborne when distributed. These fibres can get into the air and can be inhaled into a person’s lungs. When this dangerous incident occurs, significant health problems could arise.
When a person breathes in air containing asbestos fibres, serious asbestos-related illnesses may occur. For example, cancers of the lungs and chest lining.
Asbestos is a major risk to health if fibres are released into the air and inhaled. Past exposure to asbestos currently kills 6000 people a year in Great Britain alone and this number is expected to rise for the next ten years. At present, there is no cure for asbestos related diseases.
Asbestos can be located in any building constructed before the year 2000. Therefore schools, shops, factories, offices, farms, hospitals, and even homes can be affected by asbestos. If you own, manage, occupy or hold responsibility for any premises, under the Control of Asbestos Regulations which came to force in 2012, you have a legal obligation to have your premises asbestos surveyed.
M.E.L. offers a full professional asbestos survey service. We will survey your premises, take samples of suspect materials and have them sent to a laboratory where they will be examined. A report will then be filed, presenting to you any trace of asbestos found within the selected material. The report will contain photos, a plan of your premises including details of where samples were taken from and where asbestos was found; making it easy for you to pass on the information to others (such as maintenance contractors). This process will allow you to compile a plan to manage any asbestos that could be present within your building.
