Traffic Management Plans

The presence of mobile site plant is a common feature of the vast majority of construction projects within the UK.  Developments in the design and availability of site plant has meant that the time spent digging trenches, moving materials and demolishing existing structures has been greatly reduced. Labour-saving machines are now utilised for a great number of tasks, eliminating the requirement for laborious work cutting construction schedules dramatically.

Due to the nature of their use many mobile construction vehicles are very large and powerful machines.  Most produce high noise levels or operate in environments which are loud, dusty or resticted in some way.  They are also often used in areas frequented by site operatives on foot, working in the vicinity of the machines themselves.  The potential for accidents to occur is huge. Not the kind of accidents that involve a trip to the first aider for a plaster; but serious injuries and even fatalities.

Machine operators and vehicle drivers need to be given instructions on how to manoeuvre when on site and be provided with details of any turning circles or one way systems. Limitations need to be placed on speed, height and even weight in some cases.  A clearly recorded plan can be formulated so that the site manager knows exactly what needs to be done in order to prevent vehicle collisions, both with pedestrians and other vehicles.

M.E.L. can assist you in developing a Traffic Management Plan that is appropriate for your construction project (whether it be a small housing development or a multimillion pound venture) so that you can be proactive in preventing accidents and controlling vehicle activities on site.  Leaving the responsibility down to the operators of vehicles and mobile plant to organise themselves is a recipe for disaster, one that is the cause of several fatal accidents each year.  Don't let a serious accident occur on your project, call us today on 01708 555544 for more information.
