The Strata Tower

Client : Brookfield Europe

Moving rapidly towards the 2010 completion date, the regeneration of London's Elephant & Castle is perhaps most evident in the developing Strata Tower.  Due to stand at a towering height of 147 metres the structure will be one of the tallest residential buildings in the world, the futurist architecture will decorate London's skyline and will ensure that the structure becomes one of the Capital's most recognisable monuments.

The design concept embodies a sustainable approach that minimises energy requirements from the outset.  The client was keen to explore opportunities to generate heat and electricity on site which resulted in the inclusion of three wind turbines and a combined heat and power plant.

A representative from M.E.L. acted as the resident safety manager on the project from its very inception, ensuring that the basis for managing site safety was a priority from the beginning and instigating the procedures that would be followed until the day of completion.  The employment of a permanent, internal safety manager by Brookfield last year has meant that our role has now switched to providing training courses, supplying PPE & site signage, auditing subcontractors and acting as a safety presence during periods of absence.
